For Clio consultants and legal technology firms
Give Clients a Supported Phone-to-Clio Workflow—Without Giving Up Control of the Relationship.
Ringfree connects calls, voicemails, SMS, summaries and draft time entries to Clio. You guide the client’s legal workflow; we own the telephony setup and ongoing support. We stay in our lane, keep you involved and welcome your input on the integration.

Client fit
When Ringfree may fit a client
Not every Clio firm is a match. These are the situations where consultants typically introduce Ringfree:
- The client uses Clio and wants phone activity reflected in matter records.
- They want calls, voicemail, or SMS associated with Clio matters when a match can be made.
- They want summaries, action items, or draft time entries from communication activity.
- They want setup and ongoing support from the provider that owns the phone system.
- They are typically in the 15-to-50-person firm range Ringfree is built around. That is a typical profile, not a hard cutoff.
If the firm isn’t a fit, we’ll say so. The point of the conversation is to decide together.
How the handoff works
You stay on Clio. We stay on the phones.
-
1. Talk through a client scenario
Thirty minutes with David
Your practice, a current or typical client, and whether the phone-to-Clio workflow is the right introduction.
-
2. Map the client’s Clio workflow together
You remain the advisor
Matter structure, naming, billing preferences, and what should be logged. Ringfree configures the telephony and the integration to match the client firm’s rules. We do not change Clio workflow decisions without you.
-
3. Ringfree implements and supports
We own the phone system after go-live
Configuration, number porting as part of setup, testing, and ongoing support sit with Ringfree. You stay in the loop when phone behavior would affect the client’s Clio workflow.
Relationship
Client relationship protected
You remain the Clio advisor
Ringfree complements your services. We do not replace your Clio role, and we do not position ourselves as the client’s practice-management consultant.
You stay involved in mapping
When phone behavior affects Clio workflow, you are in the conversation. Matter matching, logging rules, and time-entry preferences follow the client firm’s process, not a generic template we impose.
We stay accountable for telephony
Implementation, configuration, and ongoing phone-system support are Ringfree’s. The client should know who owns which part of the work.
Non-exclusive
The relationship is non-exclusive both ways. Partnership terms, when they apply, are confirmed in writing. This page is not a contract.
Integration ownership
Built and supported directly by Ringfree
Ringfree owns the Clio integration, so feedback from consultants who work closely with Clio firms reaches the team that can evaluate it. We review suggestions based on reliability, usefulness, and fit across real Clio workflows.
What the integration does
What Ringfree connects to Clio
Matter-connected calls, voicemail and SMS
Inbound and outbound calls, duration, and participants can log to the associated Clio matter. Voicemails can be recorded, transcribed, and attached. SMS can log to the matter when a match is made.
AI summaries and action items
Summaries can capture why the client called, key facts, decisions, and follow-ups. Action items from a conversation can be turned into tasks or next steps on the matter.
Configurable draft time entries
Call activity can generate time entries in Clio. Firms choose who receives them, how descriptions are formatted, and whether entries stay in draft for review or are finalized.
Matter matching, real-time sync and click-to-call
Matching typically uses contact phone numbers, recent activity, and firm rules. Ambiguous numbers, including one contact with several matters, can need a rule or a manual correction. Sync is designed to update the matter as communications happen. Click-to-call from Clio is included.
Firm-specific configuration with human support
Setup accounts for matter types, custom fields, naming, and permissions. Ringfree’s team configures it. Human support stays available after go-live. Ordinary support and configuration changes on the phone system stay free.
Referrals
Structured referral compensation
Qualified introductions can include structured referral compensation. David walks through the economics and written terms directly before a client goes live. If the introduction isn’t a fit, there is nothing to sign.
Questions
Consultant FAQs
How does Ringfree protect my client relationship?
Ringfree is designed to complement your consulting services, not displace them. You remain the trusted advisor for the client’s Clio workflow. We own telephony implementation, configuration, and support. We keep you involved in Clio workflow and mapping decisions, and we do not change those without coordination. The relationship is non-exclusive.
What is the referral compensation structure?
Structured referral compensation is available for qualified introductions. Compensation details and written partner terms are reviewed directly with David Wessell during your consultation and confirmed in writing prior to client go-live.
Do my clients need dedicated internal IT staff to deploy this?
Not typically. Setup is handled directly by Ringfree’s team, and support is human. The client firm does not have to staff an internal project to connect phones to Clio.
How does Ringfree handle callers associated with multiple active matters?
Multiple matters per contact are common. The integration supports firm-specific assignment rules decided during setup, matching by recent activity, and workflows that allow staff to reassign or manually correct logs when needed. Matching is not perfect on every ambiguous call.
What size law firm is this integration typically designed for?
The integration is usually positioned for 15-to-50-person law firms: enough communication volume that matter logging and draft time capture help, without needing a dedicated logging department. That is a typical profile, not an eligibility wall.
